SPORT MANAGEMENT · DECISION VALIDATION

From Inference to Managerial Decision

An inference can inform a decision, but it should not bypass human and organizational validation.

18 October 2026

Why a validation layer is necessary

Before an inference becomes action, the organization must test data quality, causal plausibility, uncertainty, transferability, possible harm and accountability.

Key questions

  1. Are the underlying data reliable?
  2. Is the relationship causal or merely correlational?
  3. How large is the uncertainty?
  4. Does the inference apply to this athlete, team or context?
  5. What is the cost of a wrong decision?
  6. Who owns the final decision?
