From AI inference to trusted decisions in sport

AI inference is not yet a decision

An AI system may infer that rising injury risk is associated with travel fatigue, reduced recovery and high training intensity. That is useful — but it is still only an inference.

Inferential trust

Inferential trust is the organizational ability to determine which AI-generated inference, under which conditions and with what level of evidence, deserves to guide action.

What should be checked?

  1. Data provenance and quality
  2. Explainability of the inference
  3. Scientific and contextual plausibility
  4. Uncertainty and alternative explanations
  5. Human expert review
  6. Clear accountability for the final decision

Decision path

AI Inference → Human Judgment → Validation → Trust → Managerial Decision → New Knowledge
