SPORT MANAGEMENT · OPERATIONAL EXAMPLE

From Injury Prediction to Injury Inference

Prediction can flag risk. Inference asks why the risk is rising, what combination of factors may be driving it, and which intervention should be tested.

From injury prediction to injury inference in sport

AI-driven approach

Training load, sleep, recovery, injury history and performance indicators can be combined to estimate injury probability.

Output: “High injury risk detected.”

Inferential approach

The system goes further: it looks for hidden factor combinations, generates candidate explanations and compares alternative interventions.

Possible inference: travel fatigue + reduced recovery + high training intensity may be jointly driving the risk.

Human validation

Coach, medical staff and AI review the inference together. The organization checks explainability, scientific plausibility, evidence and contextual relevance before action.
